Teaching

I teach students of any age, specialising in beginners and intermediate level students.

I am equally happy teaching acoustic and electric guitar, and some of my students do both.

I aim to tailor my lessons to meet your own particular needs. We will work on pieces and styles that you are interested in. My aim is to get you confident in your playing, and to bring you to a level where you can move forward on your own without my help!

For children I start by teaching some basic chords and some simple (but great!) songs. We can also learn to read music (both notation and 'tab'), and to play some fingerstyle and classical pieces.

For adults I can teach pop, rock, blues and folk styles for lead and rhythm guitar.

Since 2012 I have been entering some of my students for the QCA accredited guitar examinations provided by the Registry of Guitar Tutors. My students have had great success in these exams, all the way up to grade 8.

Whilst the exam syllabuses form a good structure for progression with the instrument, they are not the only way to learn, and I am very flexible about how we move forward. Just let me know what you want to learn, and I'll work on it with you.

I can also teach bass guitar, ukulele and music theory.
